Ice cream is sold on Thursdays for $1.00 as a fundraiser for the PTA.

Most students at Patrick M. Villano Elementary school seem to love Thursday’s lunch period. That’s when volunteers from the PTA serve ice cream for $1.00, but some students are asking why serve ice cream in the winter? They think ice cream is a great treat to cool off in the spring or summer, but not in the freezing cold winter.

“I like ice cream, but not in the winter. Ice cream is a summer treat, it is not a winter treat. I would rather have cookies in the winter. Cookies aren’t cold, and they are perfect for eating in the winter,” Sierra Tofts, a 6th grade student, said.

“It doesn’t make sense. It’s freezing outside and ice cream makes us colder. Instead we should have hot chocolate or some hot beverage to warm us up. That’s more logical,” Aca McAdams, a 6th grdae student, said.

After asking 20 students, only two said they preferred ice cream in the winter. The rest said they would prefer  a different treat. Aside from cookies, some people suggested hot chocolate.
